9-0!!!

The guys are 9-0 after last night and they are EXCITED!!! It's the first time in WT's history of having football that they have had a team go 9-0. Now if we can just get to 14-0 we'll have that National Championship!!! It was a good game in the sense that we didn't have any major injuries and a lot of our second string guys got some good playing time. It was cold though. I definitely have to find my gloves before next Saturday or it's not going to be pretty! For the after game party we had Chop Chop and I was in heaven. I love that place!

Today, once again, I am sick. We didn't go to church this morning b/c I was running a fever and I have a chest cold that I just can't seem to get rid of. I guess I am going to have to give in and go to the doctor and get some meds to kick this in the tail. Rocky and Boudreaux have been great today. They hung out with me in bed and then when I moved to the living room we all snuggled up in the blue chair.

Yesterday morning was the WT Women's Walk. It was a lot of fun. It was cold, but we all enjoyed it and the donuts at the end made it worth it.

Well, I gotta get off of here and get ready for work in case they decide to call me in tonight. I don't really want to go, but I guess I have to. Enjoy your Sunday afternoon!

We Survived!!!!

Well, we survived yet another night of cooking for the guys. It never ceases to amaze me at the amt. of food they can eat. I made chili and cornbread and cobbler for them. There wasn't hardly anything left when they left and we didn't even have all of them over here. If they had all come we would have run out of food I'm sure! Below is a picture of Billy and I after the ENMU game and then there is a picture of Billy with one of his players after that same game. It makes me laugh at how little Billy looks standing next to Floyd!

Crazy dogs!!!

So we have the goofiest dogs ever. I love them to death and they get more and more entertaining everyday. Last week I came home and they were bouncing off the walls. I just thought they were excited to see me. Little did I know that they had busted open some coke cans in the garage and had drank like 6 cokes. Let's just say that caffeine definitely hypes them up. Hopefully we have learned our lesson and will no longer be leaving the cokes on the floor in the garage.

On Sunday night it was super windy at our house. The boys' "apartment" happens to be the garage and when the wind blows it gets NOISY in there and they go nuts. So about 11:30 or so I went and got them and put them in bed with us. About 2:00 I felt Boudreaux get up and so I listened for him to see what he was going to do. Praise the Lord I cleaned toilets on Sunday b/c he went straight to the toilet in Billy's bathroom and started drinking the water. The funniest part though is watching him try to get to the water b/c he is so short.

I've posted their halloween pictures. They were surprisingly cooperative for it all! Until next time...

The Week in Review

So this was not such a good week. Work was emotionally draining beyond belief this week and then on Wed. we sat and worried about a player all day who was having a chest biopsy done. Thursday was crazy with all 25 of Billy's guys coming over for dinner...yes, it was nuts...then Friday mom and I scrapbooked all night and did it again Sat. until time for tailgating and the game. We had a lot of fun scrapping and I got several pages done. It was good to just hang out after the beginning of the week. Thursday night it looked like our house had been invaded by giants. Now I am not a small girl, and I felt as though I was a dwarf in my own house. Then to watch them consume spaghetti...lord have mercy...it was NUTS I tell ya!!! I was glad that I kept thinking big when I was buying stuff b/c it paid off in the end. There was NOTHING left by the time they were done. Billy and I neither one got to eat, but they loved it and we had fun so that's all that matters. Last night may have been the worst game of the season so far. We were FLAT from the get go. We won, but I don't know how. The final score was 36-3, but it was a lot closer than that...or at least it felt like it was. Luckily we didn't have any major injuries...just weird illnesses that keep popping up. First it's the weird chest mass on one of our big guys and then last night another one of them was complaining of chest pain and so he's having to have a stress test done today. It seems like if it's not one thing it's another. Somedays I just sit back and wonder...I know I said I would try to post pictures but I haven't downloaded them yet and I am on call tonight, so I need to go try and get a nap in before I have to go to work. Peace.

And finally a chance to breathe!!!

So we've been going non-stop since the last post. We've played 3 more football games (which were all won by us...), acquired a new dog, Boudreaux...the new one I got suckered into, bought a new king size bed...which is heavenly, had a visit from Billy's sister, and I've dyed my hair! The trip to Colorado for the second game of the season was a little rough. Billy left with the players on Friday but I got the pleasure of making the trip all in one day with the other coaches' wives. It was a six hour drive and a 2 o'clock game so we left here at 6:00 Saturday morning and got to Alamosa just in time to watch the game and turn around and come home. Needless to say we were all excited that the next game was a home game. Billy's sister came down for that game and we had a great time. It was good to get to see Jody and also to get to see my husband for a few extra hours since he didn't have to travel. This last week was a busy one and we decided that after was almost all killed ourselves going to Colorado that we were going to chicken out on the 8 hour drive to Oklahoma so we watched it on the internet at the head coach's house. We had lots of fun and it was nice to not have to get home at 6:30 in the morning like our husbands did. This week is already proving to be a busy one. We are having all of the offensive linemen over for dinner on Thursday so I spent all day yesterday (and I do mean ALL day) making spaghetti sauce. Now my house smells like spaghetti sauce! :) Then Friday my mom is coming to town and she and I are going to spend most of the evening and most of the day Saturday scrapbooking. I can't wait. I haven't had time to sit down and scrap for a couple of weeks now and I've got to get back into it or I am going to be immensely behind...not that I'm not already, but it will be even worse. Hopefully next post I will have pictures of the new hair color and maybe even a new style...I can't decide. Anyways...have a wonderful week and hopefully I will update before the two week mark next time!

Sucker Punched...

So yesterday morning I show up at Critter Camp with Rocky to drop him off for doggie daycare...yes he goes to daycare, it's a long story that will have to be explained another day though! :) Anyway, as soon as we walk in the door the lady is like, awwwww....Rocky needs a brother. I was like, what are you talking about. Then she started telling me about this little black corgi that they had that had been abandoned and if it didn't get adopted by Friday they were going to have to take it to the pound. Well, of course, I was sold, however, I did what any good wife would do and went home and talked about it with my husband when he woke me up at lunch. Of course he was all for it, so when I went back to pick up Rocky, who was soaking wet from playing in the swimming pool all afternoon, I signed all the papers and paid my $80 and will go pick him up tomorrow afternoon. I'm excited for Rocky to have a playmate and I pray that he is as well behaved as Rocky. He seemed to be when I met him yesterday. He's really cute. We are now trying to think up a name for him. They people at the kennel were calling him Handsome, but Billy is not a fan of that one and so he's working on thinking up a new name.

As a side note: Please be praying for one of Billy's players. His name is Tommy. He broke his leg fairly severely last night at practice and had to have surgery on it. I went and checked on him this morning before I came home from work and he's doing good, just in lots of pain and pretty bummed. He's a senior and definitely had a chance to play in the NFL. I don't know how that will all play out now. Also be praying for his family as they travel over here to be with him. He is from Hawaii and so they have a long road just to get here.

Well, it's time to take my grandma rollers out of my hair and finish getting ready for work. Later!

WTAMU 55 South Dakota 45

We won!!!!! I was so excited that we won. This was a huge game for our guys. They were all (coaches and players alike) frustrated with where they were ranked this year and for them to go out and play as well as they did was great!! I have very little voice today b/c I yelled so long and so loud. I've come to the conclusion that some people just don't need to sit in or near the student section. We have these VERY fun noisemakers called Kazoobees and they are loud...as noisemakers were intended to be. Well, needless to say, there were quite a few people sitting around us who didn't appreciate our noisemakers and finally got up and left. It's a football game people...what do you want me to do, sit in the bleachers like a bump on a log...I don't think so! There was a funny (well sort of) incidence part way through the 3rd quarter. Some South Dakota guy kept popping off to a WT fan and finally the fan had had enough and hauled off a hit him. Needless to say he got arrested and the other guy had to find the first aid station. Boys...some of them never grow up!

South Dakota

Today is the first game of the season!!! I'm so excited. I can't wait. It seems like it's been forever since I last watched a football game. The scrimmages were great, but tonight is the real deal.

Football...

As most of you know football rules the roost at our house. Football takes precedence over everything here. Today the guys have their 2nd preseason scrimmage and I must admit that I am quite excited about it. I don't know a whole lot of girls who get excited about a scrimmage, but I am definitely excited about it. The first game of the season is next Thursday and I can't wait!!! Even though I have a dentist appointment that morning, I still cannot wait for it to be here. It's funny to have a human perspective on what God does. Do you ever think about what he's thinking about watching us? Last night I'm sure he was saying, what the hee haw are those crazy girls up to now. I got to work on gen. pediatrics last night for the first time since we got married and it was so much fun. We laughed SO hard about all kinds of goofy stuff that the rest of the world I am sure did not find near as humorous as we did! :) It's good for me to laugh. I've decided that I haven't done enough of it lately.

Well, I am off to take a bath and shave my legs so that I can wear shorts to the scrimmage and not embarass myself. ta ta for now.

Wednesday...

Today is a good day. Two of our babies that have been with us for an extended time at work get to go home. We have all gotten attached to them, of course, even though we're not supposed to so it was bittersweet to leave work this morning. It's odd to think about going back and those sweet boys not being there, yet I am excited for them that they don't have to put up with us crazy nurses anymore! :)

It's been a good couple of days. I actually got a glimpse of my husband this morning...it's been since Sunday since I actually laid eyes on him so it was nice to see him even if it was only for about 2 minutes.

I realized last night at work that people who have to put the blame for situations on someone no matter what make me crazy!!! Sometimes things just happen and everyone does the best they can and the outcome just isn't good...it's not because someone didn't do their part or try, the Lord simply didn't intend for things to go that way.

Well, I hear my pillow calling my name loud and clear, so I think I am going to go and answer it's request for me to lay my head down.

Don't Die of Shock...

Don't anyone die of shock, but yes, I am actually updating. Thanks to lots of prodding from my dear friends Courtney and Melissa, you are getting another brief glimpse into the Best household. To pick up where I left off, we had a blast in Colorado with all of the other coaches and their wives. We went whitewater rafting again and it was great. Billy and I left a day early so we went and camped out at Red River for a couple of hours and then after the torrential rains and cold temperatures that we were not prepared for, we packed up and went and stayed in Pueblo. The next morning we got up and went into Colorado Springs and toured the Garden of the Gods and looked at Pikes Peak and then we went to the Air Force Academy. We had a lot of fun there and enjoyed getting to look around a ton. That afternoon we went on up to the cabin and spent the rest of the evening hanging out with everyone and then the next day we went to the crazy man's castle and whitewater rafting. I say crazy man b/c he really is. He is totally anti-government. He wants to remove his land from the United States and make it it's own country and he has built this castle (which is beautiful) completely by hand, but it is SO dangerous when you get down to it. There are not handrails anywhere, parts of it shake when you walk through it. It's nuts. After we got done whitewater rafting, we all ate at a park and then most of them went to Cripple Creek to the casino and we went back to the cabin and went fishing. We didn't catch anything, but it was great just to sit there and not do anything. We left early on Sunday to come back and stopped in Channing to visit with the rents for a little bit and pick up Rocky. The next weekend we got to stay home, but we had all the o-line guys over on Saturday for supper. I always love when they come over. It's a blast!!! It cracks me up to watch them eat, b/c they are bottomless pits I swear!! Since then it's pretty much just been work and hanging out at the house and getting to see each other occasionally. The first scrimmage of the year was this past Saturday and it was great to watch football again. I like watching pro, but nothing beats watching college. After the scrimmage, all the full-time coaches from all the sports at WT and their significant others went to a dinner at the president's house. It was a lot of fun and it was amusing to watch some of the other wives, who are not from Texas, and their amazement with the guys cooking meat on pictchforks. We were all sitting at the table talking and they were talking about how at a school in California b/c the traffic is so bad, the coaches sleep in the office from Sunday-Wednesday b/c they don't want to deal with traffic and one of the wives was like, oh no...we would not be doing that. You would be coming home everyday whether you liked it or not and I looked and Billy and said, well, we could handle that babe. I don't get to see you on those days/nights as it is right now, so it wouldn't be any different for us. The first game of the season is on Thursday Aug. 30. I can't wait. I'm so excited. The guys are coming over for dinner again this Friday I think. It should be interesting. Eppie's wedding shower is on Saturday as is Lora's baby shower. Hopefully I'll have a chance to post pictures from those. Until then...

For Melissa...

It's been a couple of days since I updated, but we've been super busy. We were gone all weekend last weekend to Colorado with the other coaches and had a blast. Then I've worked all week and tonight we have 18 offensive linemen coming over for dinner. I'll go into more detail about everything later (pictures included) but for now I have to finish cleaning the house and get dinner ready. Ciao!

On the road again...

So we were once again on the road this weekend. We left Friday morning at like 5:45 and headed to Wichita, KS to hang out with some of my family for the weekend. We stopped in Oklahoma City on the way and hung out for a little while then treked on. We didn't really do a lot Friday other than dinner with all the family and then headed downtown and walked on the river front for awhile. Saturday we got up and went to the zoo with my cousin and then we went out to the drag strip and watched the drag races for awhile. It was a good day, just REALLY hot. Billy loved the zoo and next time we go to the drag races I think we'll wait until in the evening to go when it's not quite so hot since there is no shade what-so-ever at the track. Sunday on our way back we were going to go walk around downtown Oklahoma City some more and before we got very far we discovered that there was a baseball game going on, so we did the logical thing and went to the baseball game and then headed back to Amarillo.

Lora and Drake kept Rocky this weekend for us and he had a blast playing with their two labs. It's good to know that he has some friends to play with and that we have people we can leave him with should we need to.

We leave Thursday to go to Colorado for one last trip and then we'll be through until we go to Louisiana at Christmas except for football travel. Maybe I'll actually have time to get my house clean now...I'll post pictures from this weekend later once I get them downloaded.

Home...Finally!!!

Billy will be home late tonight and I will get to see him in the morning when I get off of work...FINALLY!!! I can't wait. I miss him so much.

The Lake and everything since...

Last Saturday we went to Ute Lake and had a blast. It was just us and our dog. It was nice and relaxing and we didn't have to deal with anyone or anything while we were there. We actually had uninterrupted conversations for the first time since our honeymoon. It was definitely a much needed trip for us. Along with us having a great time, we learned that Rocky LOVES the water. He went nuts and was in the water almost as much as we were. That night we went to watch the fireworks...needless to say we didn't end up staying for all of them. Rocky was definitely NOT a fan of the fireworks so we left because we felt like bad parents torturing him just so we could watch them. It was still a lot of fun though.

Tuesday we bought a new truck. We finally traded my car in and got something slightly more reliable than either one of our cars. It's a 2007 Ford F150 extended cab 4x4. I LOVE it. I got to drive it for a little while in Dallas this week and it was great. I can't wait until Billy gets back from Dallas with it so that I can drive it some more. (side note: we are getting RIPPED off with gas prices in the panhandle. I paid almost 50 cents a gallon less in Dallas this week. I about died when I got home today and saw what it was up to. It's nuts I tell ya!!) I haven't taken any pictures of it yet, but I will when Billy gets back.

As soon as we signed the papers on the truck we left for Dallas. I stayed with Tracy and Tracy and Billy has been coaching a football camp. We did get to hang out together on the 4th though. We went shopping for clothes for Billy and found some GREAT deals and then we went to the Rangers game and hung out. We got to watch batting practice and warm-ups and the first three innings of the game from the front row seats right above the visitors dugout. Then the people who had paid lots o money for those seats showed up so we went to our cheap seats in the outfield next to the Rangers bull pen. We decided once we got out there though that we liked sitting in the outfield more. It was a ton of fun and hopefully it will become an annual trip for us. He started camp the next morning and I got to hang out the the Tutt gang. It was wonderful to be able to see them. I miss them all dearly. Oh what I wouldn't give to live so much closer to them. On Friday, I ran to Hillsboro to make a shopping trip with Lisa. We had a blast and found lots of good deals. It must admit, she is the main reason I am a bargain shopper. She has made me into a firm believer that you don't pay full price for anything if you don't have to. Today was Maegan's 6th birthday party. I can't believe she is already six and that Kodi is 3. They are sweet, sweet girls and it was wonderful to see them and to get to love on them. I don't get to do it enough. I flew home tonight and I must admit, as nice as it was to see old friends and visit...it felt really good to come home to my dog and my own house! If the posts are few and far between these next couple of weeks please forgive me. It's only because we are going to be EXTREMELY busy and be gone most of the time.

My precious Kodi!! I can't believe she's already 3.

Sweet Saturday!!

We are going to the lake tomorrow. I can't wait. It will be Rocky's first trip. I hope he loves it. Hopefully some of Billy's need to be around water will be met with this little trip.

Mustard and Cheese...

Last week, as you know, was football camp at WT. Well, Billy was in charge of it all and so we had all the food at our house at one point. I thought that it would all be gone after camp was over on Saturday. Little did I know what we were going to end up with. I opened the refrigerator Sunday and there were 9 yes I did say 9 bottles of mustard in our refrigerator along with way more cheese than we would ever be able to eat. All I could do was laugh. So needless to say anytime I go to an event with the opportunity to provide mustard and cheese...I'll be all over it!

Sunday Fun...

Yesterday was the first day that my husband and I have had to ourselves in a LONG time (literally about 2 weeks) so we made use of it by just hanging out and not doing a whole lot. We were both so tired from this last week that we were heathens and didn't go to church. I don't even remember my alarm going off and I know it was set before we went to bed. Once we finally got up we just hung out around the house playing with the dogs (we had a friend's 2 dogs for the weekend as well as Rocky) and we cleaned up a little bit. Then we decided that our original plan to go hiking in the canyon wasn't such a good idea b/c he was still sunburned from camp and I didn't want to go do anything where he was going to be cranky so we decided to go to Wonderland. I don't know who the genius was that decided that all the roads in Thompson Park and Wonderland needed to be retarred this weekend without putting down any asphalt, but they are idiots whoever they are. We got to Wonderland and when to get out of the car and Billy's flip-flop got stuck in tar and broke. I was pretty sure that was the end of our adventure b/c he was furious. So we drove back to Shoe Carnival and got him some new sandals, went and ate dinner and then went to Wonderland. It turned out to be a lot of fun and definitely something we want to do again soon! It was sad this morning. When he left for work he kissed me good-bye and told me he would see me in the morning...that's the part that stinks about working nights...

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Some day...

Someday camp will be over, my husband will no longer be a college student, and our evenings will be free for us to spend with each other instead of working on everything he has to get done for camp or class...someday.

Cultivating Contentment

This is the title of the Bible Study that the ladies in our Sunday School class are starting this week. Life was definitely lived in the slow lane last night at work, so I whipped out the lesson for this week. Let me just say, God never fails to remind me at the most appropriate times that He is none other than a Sovreign God. From what I can tell from the first week of this study, I couldn't have gone through this at a more appropriate time in my life. First off...married life has been wonderful. I do not regret it one bit, however, it's also not what I thought it was going to be and I came to the realization last night that it's not what I thought it was going to be in large part because of me. This week has been really hard. Minus a couple of hours this weekend, I haven't really seen my husband in a week and a half. Between me working nights and him being gone and busy our paths just haven't crossed a whole lot. This has been extremely hard for me...especially this morning...I don't know why this morning, but I've been extremely tearful and emotional since I left work. I'm sure the girl at the Donut Stop thinks I've lost it completely. Anyway--back to the subject at hand. This week's lesson was over being discontent with life and why we are that way. It's human nature...but it's also a lack of the one relationship in our lives that should take priority over all others. Here lately, I have to say, I've definitely let that relationship fall to the wayside more than once and not only has it hurt me, but I'm quite certain my marriage has been effected by it.

So I realize that this probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense to anyone...I'm not even sure it makes sense to me...maybe I'll add on later...but here it is straight from my hear at 7:45 in the morning. I pray that we would all find ourselves content in the Lord today.

The Dreaded Question for Newlyweds...

...So when are you going to have kids. The answer to that question is that we don't know other than not right now. Billy has his heart set on an offensive line and if that's truly going to be the case then we better start considering it soon b/c I don't want to be 40 and having kids...Not my idea of fun.

This week is football camp at WT, so we are on our three day stretch of not seeing each other. I guess I should just get used to it b/c once they start two a days and classes start that's the way it's going to be every week. I am glad that he is enjoying what he's doing and I am enjoying work for the most part. Just like any job it has it's moments that are not so glorious, but I'm adjusting to the change in pace and change in method of action and so far, so good.

Well, it's 7:45 and that means I need to go to bed so that I can get up in a few hours. I have to go to an inservice at work today and so I have to be there almost 2 hours early...YIKES!!!!!!!!!

Almost 7 weeks...

Well, we've almost made it to the 7 week mark of being married so I thought it a good time to create a blog for our family. Billy has been gone for a couple of days, but is coming home tonight and I must admit that I'm excited. Rocky and I have just been hanging out the last couple of days. We got a new refrigerator this week, which was very exciting for me. However, when they moved it in, it was too tall to fit in it's appointed spot b/c we didn't measure it beforehand so it ended up on a random wall in the kitchen. Well, when I got up that afternoon and started getting ready for work I noticed that the refrigerator had been moved...Lo and behold, our landlord had come over that afternoon and he just took out the cabinet that was in the way so now our fridge is no longer in an awkward corner of the kitchen!!! Yeah!!! Well, I just heard the dryer go off, thus laundry calls my name so I'll end our first blog here, but be sure to check back in often to hear about the Best Happenings.
